Bupu People To Benefit From New Market

by Colleen Barilae – EM TV, Lae

The people of Bupu, a village in the Mumeng area of Bulolo district in the Morobe province, will see benefits in their community, from a new market built by the Bulolo District Development Authority.

When opening the new building, Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, said the district authority is also planning to build more markets for the other wards within Bulolo district.

The villagers at Bupu said the new market would contribute greatly towards their livelihoods back in their homes.

More than 200 people in the small community of Bupu will be using the new market to sell their garden produce.

The new infrastructure is yet another development that has been presented to the Bupu people by the Bulolo District Development Authority.

Many people in Bupu village have been relying on the money they have earned from their daily markets of garden produce to cater for other basic essentials like salt and sugar.

Jennifer Robert is a mother of four.

She, like many other mothers in the village have children that attend school.

A portion of the money she has been making from her market goes to paying her children’s school fees.

For the past five years, women in Bupu village have been selling their produce in what looked like an open space without any proper shelter.

Sometimes, they sit in the rain to sell their produce, for a small income at the end of each day.

MP Sam Basil has also asked people in Bupu to use the new infrastructure with care.

The new development at Bupu village in Bulolo district is a caption of services that is vital to sustain human lives in most of the country’s rural areas.

However, the call for development depends on each district’s performance of service delivery to its people.
