The floriculture industry has huge potential in sustaining the livelihoods of communities.
President of the PNG Cut Flower Association, Mary Saun, says the industry is slowly growing, but needs support.
Saun said this during the annual PNG Cut Flower Show in Port Moresby this afternoon. She also pointed out that the industry needs more support to host training and increase knowledge of women or men on flower.
The president of the PNG Cut Flower Association says, floriculture has huge economic potential.
Running for the seventh time, the annual PNG Cut Flower Show has again attracted more floricultural groups from provinces around the country.
Groups from New Ireland, Simbu and Jiwaka joined this year’s show.
For the Simbu women, it was exciting to see other flower species and go through the process of learning in the making.
But, it’s not just showcasing the flowers, florist Janet Thomas says, her family and other families have been financially supported through the selling of cut flowers. Mrs Thomas said flower has really helped put food on the table while living in the city.
The show will run for the next two days, with presentation of awards on Friday.
