Yesterday saw the launching of the PNGNID Project in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands Province.
The launching saw the Province’s first civil registry office opened by Minister Charles Abel and Governor Paias Wingti.
PNGNID Project Director, Roko Koloma, when introducing the project said the new civil registry office in Mt Hagen will set a new bench mark for the Province.
Koloma said the office will be tasked to make sure services are delivered to prescribed registration premises, once the NID project reaches all corners of Western Highlands.
He also said it will make civil registration for Western Highlanders easy, after years of travelling to Port Moresby to settle birth certificates, death certificates and other registrations.
Former Prime Minister and Governor for Western Highlands, Paias Wingti, said the country needs projects like the PNGNID.
He said the Government has a great vision for the country and the PNGNID project is the pathway for development.
Despite a small protest against this Government initiative, Planning Minister, Charles Abel, said the NID project has no hidden motives.
Abel said the project is to make the Government aware of the country’s population and its needs, so that it can deliver services more effectively.
This is the second NID centre opened outside Port Moresby. Other centres will open in the coming months, with Central Province set to launch its office next week.
