Pukpuks and Palais Must Focus on Fitness

By Lorraine Genia – EM TV, Port Moresby

The Pukpuks and Palais must focus on fitness in the lead up to their biggest gig in the region, come July.

Both teams played in the local Capital Rugby Union Sevens tournament yesterday, with match fitness their biggest area of improvement.

While the current Pukpuk sevens squad is said to be one of the best teams in recent years, the match between the national 15s team proved the squad’s lack of fitness.

Wesley Vali and Buttler Morris showed similar signs of brilliance on the wing replicating their performance at the Hong Kong 7s, while captain Hubert Tseraha was outstanding midfield, making a number of breaks, and scoring from the 22.

Meanwhile, national coaching director of the PNGRFU Sydney Wesley remains confident, on the team’s preparations leading into the Games.

The Palais on the other hand, have just concluded their week long camp in Port Moresby. Coach Sydney is focused on improving the Palais standing in the Pacific.
