by Delly Waigeno – EM TV, Port Moresby

The season two climax of EM TV’s leading reality music show, Vocal Fusion, had Morris Opeti singing all the way home with K50,000 on Sunday night.

The live telecast of the grand final episode, which was broadcast on FM100 and Hot 97 FM, broke viewership records.

EM TV Online received a record number of hits and telephone lines were swamped with calls from viewers from right across PNG. The level of reaction surpassed that of State of Origin viewers’ feedback by the end of the grand finale’s first live segment.

It was an exciting spectacle at The Cosmopolitan on Sunday night, as the grand final show opened with a bang, beginning with the final four contestants singing Soul II Soul’s “Joy.” Alongside sponsors of the show were friends and family members who were there to support their favorites.

The long, three-month journey from auditions to hectic vocal coaching and mentoring all boiled down to Sunday night’s crucial final performances. Buka’s Morris Opeti sang “Two Strong Hearts” by John Farnham, followed by “How Do You Talk To An Angel” by The Heights. The stunning Sumira Natera from Port Moresby sang “Listen” by Beyoncé, followed by Jessie J’s “Masterpiece”.

Jeremiah Prout from Alotau sang Percy Sledge’s “When A Man Loves A Woman”, followed by Van Halen’s “Why Can’t This Be Love”. The young lass from Chimbu, Tinzy Mau, sang Katherine Jenkins’ “Time To Say Goodbye”, followed by Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down”.

The judges said they had a tough job on their hands but the results finally came out.
Morris earned the K50,000. The third runner up was Tinzy, who was awarded K5,000, the second runner up was Jeremiah, with K10,000, and the first runner up was Sumira, who took away K20,000.

The season two blockbuster was supported by impressive and highly entertaining performances from guest judge Prote-J, Vocal Fusion season one winner, Jacob Ilave, Vocal Fusion season one finalist Delma Minei, and many more.
