PNG Correctional Service Website Launched

By Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

The PNG Correctional Service (PNGCS) is stepping up its information technology service after ten years of development.

As a tool to promote the institute, PNGCS has launched its official website, which is now open for information sharing and feedback.

As technology advances, government departments have realised the advantage of doing business and sharing information electronically using the World Wide Web.

PNGCS is the latest department to launch a new website to the public. IT capabilities were introduced into the PNGCS department in 2005, with funding assistance from the then-PNG Law and Justice Program. However, after 10 years, the department finally has a site to promote its business and marketing its strategies, policies and information to the wider community.

Commissioner Michael Waipo says with this website, PNGCS can tell its stories to partners interested in corrections and rehabilitation work.

Yesterday’s launch of the website was attended by senior PNGCS personnel, including Minister Jim Simatab. Simatab challenged his officers to use the new site as a public relations tool and to market the department. The website was created by Pacific Software Solution, a local IT and database company and can be accessed here.
