Orion Group, an engineering recruitment specialist through the South Pacific Employment Institute, has started conducting INTEL Computer Literacy training for trainers with ‘Basics of Computing’.
The two–day training is in line with the government’s vision to have a computer literate society.
For those who know the basics of computing, it is a luxury we take for granted. But imagine what it must be like for those who know nothing about how to use a computer. For them, learning the basics can be the door into another world.
The Orion Group through the South Pacific Employment Institute, formerly the Exxon Mobil Training Facility at Idubada, is the only licensed training institute in Papua New Guinea to run the INTEL easy steps computer training.
This is the first batch of 30 trainees from different non–government organisations in the country.
Master Trainer,Jacob Anthony, from India, says knowing the basics of computing empowers a person in their day to day activities. He says the advantages are greater as PNG has adapted itself to a modernised computer society.
Nick Smith, the Country Manager for Orion Group and the Director of South Pacific Employment Institute, says currently, they are targeting NGO groups, but in the future, they hope to involve provincial governments to provide such trainings throughout the country.
Apart from the INTEL Training, another program that Orion Group has ventured into, is a partnership with the Enga Provincial Government. Under the arrangement, Orion Group organises skills trainings with partner institutions in the Philippines.
Orion Group also coordinated training for 3, 500 local people from PNG LNG project impact area and through the South Pacific Employment Institute (SPEI) will continue to manage the Port Moresby Construction Training Facility on behalf of the government.
