A mother from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville is the first female to graduate with a Masters in Management, from the University of Natural Resources & Environment.
The university said, Ruby Mirinka is the first female to successfully complete the course since the inception of the program 15 years ago, in 2000. She was amongst over 160 students who graduated last Friday at the UNRE main campus in East New Britain Province.
Ruby is currently the director of the Bougainville Healthy Community Program, which started out as an NGO, but has now been integrated into the Autonomous Bougainville Government’s system.
The program links the informal health system, to formal health through a referral system. It also focuses on capacity building.
I asked her if she was thinking about further education, but she has other plans. As a mother and a manager, Ruby said her achievement came from hard work and support from her husband and family.
She said it’s possible for women to succeed at this level of education.
