Road Accident Along Highlands Highway Leaves 4 Dead

Four people, including a child, are dead following a fatal road accident in Imbongu district in Southern Highlands.

The accident occurred at around 3 am, on Saturday.

The fuel delivery truck overturned at Kirene village along the Highlands highway and killed the passengers.

The deceased are 3 adult females and one seven year old girl from Lower Mendi, in Southern Highlands. The male is from Enga Province.

Another female passenger is fighting for her life at the Mendi General Hospital.

Southern Highlands Provincial Police Commander, Sibron Popato, said the driver escaped death and escaped from the accident scene. Police are now calling on the driver to immediately surrender.

He said the driver and his companion picked up 4 extra passengers on their way to Mendi.

The PPC is also urging relatives of the deceased not to take the law into their own hands, but let police continue investigations.

The truck involved in the accident is owned by IPI Group of Companies.
