K70 Million Grant from Japan for Bridges on the New Britain Highway

Two new bridges along the New Britain Highway will go under reconstruction – thanks to the government of Japan.

Japan approved the seventy million Kina grant, for the execution of this project that is equivalent to three billion one hundred sixty million Japanese Yen (3,160,000,000).

On Friday, January 23, Japan Ambassador to PNG, Morio Matsumoto and PNG Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister, Rimbink Pato signed the contract agreement.

The project aims to rebuild the Aum and Kapiura Bridges, enhancing improvement in bridge performance and safety.

Ambassador Matsumoto said the improvement of conditions on both bridges is an urgent issue with a high degree of urgency.

The government of Japan hopes that the signing will further contribute to the socio-economic development of Papua New Guinea and further strengthen bilateral relations.

PNG Foreign Affairs Minister, Rimbink Pato thanked Japan for the precious gift that will be of much help to the people of New Britain, and those who will use it.
