The PNG-based team members have been divided into their event groups, with coaches drawing up schedules for the athletes in conjunction with Athletics PNG.
In the course of their preparations, they will aim to compete at the Queensland State and National Championships in March.
Meanwhile, our middle distance and long distant runners in the likes of Jenny Albert and Miriam Goiya are part of 16 athletes training in Adelaide. They will also compete in the South Australian Championship at the end of February.
In March, the group of 16 will return and be based at the National Sports Institute in Goroka until mid-April; they will then attend the National Championships in Lae and the Pacific Games selection trials.
Also in training mode are our top high jump prospects, Penniel Richard, Delilah Kami and Nellie Leslie. These athletes will travel Down Under to take part in the Queensland championship and a number of local meets around Brisbane before returning to PNG before the Pacific Games.
