Boxers on Track for Pacific Games

By Raphaella Kaore – EM TV, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinean boxers will be undergoing a training camp in Port Moresby, at the High Performance Training Centre (HPTC), for the next two months.

PNG Boxing Federation President, John Avira, said they have a massive training camp for the national training squad in the lead-up to the Pacific Games.

The boxers, scouted from the PNG Games, were Lynette Kwarula, Cerelyn Kupe, Leo Kondai, Scot Mel, and two others.

The competition at the PNG Games gave boxers the opportunity to showcase their skills, and make it into the national training squad.

After the two months of training under the HPTC, and following a number of formalities, the squad will then be sent down to Queensland, Australia, to train at Runaway Bay.

The boxers in the training squad will, however, have to compete at the national championships, which are to be held between the 27th and 30th of this month in Goroka, at the National Sporting Institute.

Currently, out of the 15 associations in the country, only eight boxing associations are confirmed to participate at the National Championships in Goroka at the end of this month.
