The Sports Ministry and Department was the first to acquit its funds for year 2013.
Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, and the 2015 Pacific Games and Venues Committee acquitted for almost K400 million for year 2013.
The minister and the committee presented the reports to Finance Minister James Marape yesterday.
So far, the ministry has spent over K900 million on sporting infrastructures and equipment.
A total of K2 billion has been set aside for infrastructure and equipment in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
K1.1 billion has been budgeted for sporting fields, stadiums and equipment, and the balance will be spent on NCD roads.
Sports and 2015 Pacific Games Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, said contracts for the major projects like the Games village, Taurama Aquatic and Indoor complex and the Sir John Guise Stadium have been awarded and work is scheduled to end in March.
Contracts for minor works like the Rita Flynn, Bisini, Gabutu Beach, and Golf Club, amongst others, are yet to be awarded.
Mr. Marape commended Mr. Tkatchenko and his committee to be the first to furnish the 2013 financial year report on the 2015 Pacific Games.
Mr. Marape urged other departments and ministries to follow on from the sports contingent, and furnish their reports immediately.
He said failure to do so will result in budget cuts.
The reports furnished yesterday showed that in 2012, K55.5 million was used, while in 2013, K386.9 million.
This year, K474.3 million will be used with an anticipated K94.4million utilized in 2015.
This brings to a total of K1.1 billion.
Meanwhile, on the ground, construction companies are working around the clock to get most of the infrastructure completed at the end of this year, however, at a much slower pace.
The major and minor projects have been scheduled to be completed in March next year.
The major project is the Games Village here at the UPNG main campus, with a massive K300 million budgeted for it.
Since the ground breaking ceremony in 2012, construction is still continuing at a snail’s pace.
