The Government is boasting about its Tuition Free Education but it doesn’t know that many schools are struggling to cope with the policy.
Shortage of classroom facilities is making it difficult for schools to cater for the increase in student numbers, under this policy.
Tubuseria Primary is one of the schools, faced with this problem.
Tubuseria Primary School was established in 1969 and is a level 6 school, enrolling children from elementary prep to Grade 8.
Like many schools in the country, it is faced with the burden of overcrowding.
Enrollment figures have increased to 650 students this year, due to the Tuition Free Education Policy.
This has become a worry for the school, as it does not have the facilities to cater for this increase in student number.
There are 25 staffs, and student to teacher ratio is one teacher to 60 students.
Headmaster, John Kaikere commended the Governments’ initiative, but wants them to seriously look at improving facilities in schools throughout the country.
He was also concerned about the poor living condition of his staff.
This has affected their performance and should be addressed.
Last year, the school received K98, 000 subsidy to run the school.
They are still waiting for the payment for this year.
But as the winning school for the 2015 Pacific games Mascot, it was presented with K10 000 from BSP.
Mr. Kaikere said the money will be spent on essential services.
