Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says the National Government is interested in redeveloping infrastructures in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB)
One of the main high impact projects is roads.
Mr. O’Neill says the National Government will keep an eye to see that these projects are fully implemented.
He also said that roads are an important link to economic growth and the National Government will ensure the projects are completed.
Mr. O’Neill explained that roads are part of the Special Intervention Funds however the National Government will allocate additional funds for assistance.
The lists of high impact projects for immediate roll out for next month are the Kokopau to Buin Highway and Buka Ring Road Highway.
Mr. O’Neill said the people have suffered enough and contracts will only be tendered to companies with the capacity and priority to local contractors.
Meanwhile Bougainville’s Finance, Treasury and Planning Minister Albert Punghau stated that K100 million was allocated for roads sealing in this year’s budget.
Mr. Punghau pointed out the need to upgrade feeder roads that connect to the main trunk roads which are accessed by the entire population.
