Reconstruction work will soon start along the Sabama/Pari road, in the Moresby South Electorate.
The road has been neglected for over 5 years, and has become a danger to both vehicle owners, and pedestrians, with petty crime.
Member for Moresby South and Minister for Sports, Justin Tkatchenko, and City Manager, Leslie Alu, officiated the ground breaking ceremony, to mark the beginning of the reconstruction.
Residents from Sabama through to Pari, turned up today, to witness the ground breaking ceremony of the reconstruction of the roads. One such resident, James Hapea, said the road work is very important for the community, and especially for the youths.
The project, which was awarded to the National Capital District Commission, will engage youths in the community under Phoenix Builders Limited, who will be contracting the rehabiliatation.
NCD Governor Powes Pakop, who was also present for the ceremony, acknowledged the support of the member, adding that, getting funds for such projects from the National Government, is very hard, and advised those who attended, to look after the road upon its completion.
City Manager, Leslie Alu also added that the upgrade of the Sabama/Pari road is one of NCDC’s priorities, and although is a daunting task for the Commission, NCDC will take on the challenge, with the support from the community.
A total amount of K2 million has been allocated for the rehabilitation of the road.
The rehabilitation is said to take two to three months, to complete with the help from youths in the community.
