Ben Moide Remembered

Ben Moide, the war veteran has passed away, but his bravery and courage is a story that will be told for generations.

Many will tell retell his stories and many will remember him through a biography of the late veteran and a club that was named after him.

The retired sergeant was from a mixed parentage of Western and Central province.

His father migrated to Port Moresby from a small island near Daru, and got married to a lady from Pari village and has ever since lived there.

Late Moide was born and raised in the village of Hanuabada.

The story of his upbringing and how he ran away at an early age have been retold in the book, The Nameless Warriors.

This book describes the life of the then last soldier, who fought alongside Australians along the Kokoda trail.

His bravery was honoured by the former PNGDF Commander, Peter Illau, when he announced the Soldiers club at Murray Barracks to be named after the war veteran.

The Ben Moide club offers a great venue for soldiers to relax.

Late Moide was the face of all war veterans during important ceremonies in Papua New Guinea and Australia.

His last overseas travel saw late Moide as part of the Rotary Kokoda Memorial Walk in Gold Cost, Australia in 2012.

The Remembrance Park is where Mr. Moide attended PNG Remembrance day services in the recent decades. He was chosen to represent all the unsung heroes who fought alongside Australians during the Second World War on the Kokoda trail.
