Landowners in the PDL 7 areas of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) are threatening the Government with a possible closure of the Project.
Spokespersons visited EMTV recently, airing concerns of outstanding equities, minimum infrastructure development and provision of other benefits to the legitimate landowners.
The LNG project is 95% complete with its infrastructural stage and first shipment of gas is scheduled for mid-2014.
However, PDL 7 landowners have come out voicing a possible shut down or bloodshed before gas is piped out of the country.
Andy Hamaga, a PDL landowner, says the National Government has to honor its commitments and respond swiftly.
He says, LNG is a huge project with huge impacts on the country’s economy and legitimate landowners must be a priority in terms of tangible developments and benefits.
Supporting Mr. Hamaga was John Kaloma, who says the Government is not putting money in areas stipulated in the agreements signed in Kokopo. This includes the Tari–Komo road, Tari town development and the Komo airport.
Mr. Tabuko wants the government to come out clearly and explain the lock-up of the IDG funds. He says landowners have been fooled.
Developer Exxon Mobil refused to comment on this matter.
