But in another new development, the organization has given yet another 14 days to stage a peaceful protest march against the total buai ban in the city.
They have issued notices to police hierarchy to give the clearance for a possible peaceful protest march in 14 day's time.
The Network Foundation raised their concerns last week on how the total ban has affected their lives, especially those who depend entirely on the nut for an income.
NCD Grassroots Network Foundation is a group that represents marginalised groups and individuals living in the city. The Foundation has 60,000 members, made up mostly of those severely affected when the buai ban was imposed early this year.
Last week, the NCD Grassroots Network Foundation offered six alternatives that could see the sale of betelnut in the city, but properly regulated.
Some of the suggestions included the commercialisation of betelnut like any other commodity as it was and is a traditional commodity. They also suggested that bins be provided at common public areas and bus stops in the city. Penalise vehicle owners whose passengers spit betelnut or litter on board moving vehicles.
The Foundation has taken their grievances on board. Executive Director of NCD Grassroots Network Foundation, Ibert Abe said the foundation has issued a notice to NCD Police on Monday of their intention to stage a peaceful protest march in 14 days’ time.
To date, police are yet to respond on the matter. But it’s understood, the leaders of the Foundation with meet with the Police Commissioner on Monday.
