Mona Launches Oil Palm Project

The Kubuna people of Central province are the first to have a large scale commercial Oil Palm project in their area.

On Friday, the project was launched by both the Goilala Member, Daniel Mona and the developer Albright Limited, and was witnessed by the Kubuna people.

It took over 4 years for the developer and stakeholders to establish the project.

Kubuna is in the Kairuku – Hiri electorate, a place where basic Government services such as health and education are minimal, or non-existent.

The only engagement with the people has been through logging, however, the livelihood of the Kubuna people has remained the same.

The new Oil Palm Project will now see visible changes in infrastructure, job opportunities and spin-off benefits. Over 130 hectares of land has been cleared for the first 5,000 seedlings to be planted next month.

Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) Advisor for Central Province, Kila Gege, said oil palm is a commodity with high demand on the world market.

He also challenged the developer to keep up with the production schedule for revenue collection by the Central provincial Government.

General Manager for Albright Limited, Masilamani Gnaanam said, the project will have major beneficial impacts for locals, especially in terms of infrastructure.

Mr. Mona said oil palm has developed many provinces, and he wants the project to extend to his electorate. Mr. Mona also called on the developer to prioritize road, school and health services, which have been lacking for previous years.
