Further Funding Still Needed to Contain TB

By Merilyn Diau-Katam -EM TV News, Port Moresby

The national government has allocated only K8 million for their TB Emergency Response Plan.

Deputy Health Secretary, Dr. Paison Dakulala, confirmed this with the funds to cater for the target hotspots of Western province, Gulf province and the National Capital District.

This slice of funds was from the K40 million that was urgently needed for the TB Emergency Response Plan.

“There is a lot of work that needs to happen and be done, but I think we are on the right track,” said Dr. Dakulala.

It is understood the National Department of Health still needs further funding in order to fully execute a successful emergency response plan.

The National Department of Health and other implementing partners are doing their best to help contain the TB epidemic in Papua New Guinea.
