An ex-Police Sergeant who shot at a Fraud Squad detective during a confrontation in 2014 has been arrested and charged for attempted murder, perverting the course of justice and issuing threats.
Philip Pokop allegedly led a group of armed policemen and threatened a Fraud Squad Detective, Richard Premenga, at his residence at the Games Village Police Barracks in Port Moresby.
The incident occurred during a turbulent period within the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
A statement released by Police Media said: “Pokop was refused bail and detectives investigating the case confiscated a glock pistol found in his possession.”
A complaint was laid after the incident occurred but no action was taken until a few months ago.
This is the latest in a string of arrests of rogue police officers throughout the country.
