Manus Province Sewage Project

By Adelaide Kari – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Water Board PNG and the Manus Provincial Administration today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to have a sewage plant built in Lorengau.

The Provincial Administrator, Andrew Posong, said that Manus province fiscal planning in the past did not include a sewage plant because of the small population, but it is now much needed for the people of Manus.

The population of the small island province is rapidly growing and population growth calls for the provincial government to start providing much needed services, none more important than a sewage plant, said Posong at the signing of the MOU with Water Board PNG.

Managing Director, Raka Tavir, said that Water Board PNG was pleased to take on the project and had a team of senior engineers already working on finding a site.

His only concern was land availability; he added that there is a court case currently ongoing over land in Lorengau, and asked the provincial government of Manus to ensure that land was provided for the plant.
