The UPNG Senate, the supreme body consisting of the Vice Chancellor and Head of Departments for all schools at UPNG, held a special meeting on Friday and issued resolutions to the ongoing unrest.
Among the 5 resolutions, is for normal classes to resume on Monday, May 9.
However, the students themselves have vowed to continue the boycott.
Earlier on Friday, the National Academic Staff Association consisting of academic staff from the University of Papua New Guinea their statement said supported the UPNG boycott.
NASA president, Emmanuel Gorea, says they support the stand the students are taking and therefore calls on the Prime Minister and the government of PNG to receive the student’s petition.
However, he said that they will cater for students, through remedial classes to cover the loss of learning.
Late this afternoon the UPNG senate released a statement giving their resolution on the issue.
The senate has stated that students must attend lectures and tutorials on Monday.
If they are absent for more than two weeks their continuation in their enrolled programs become untenable by Friday, May 13.
The University management is directed to take actions to protect staff and students.
The resolution of senate standing committee and the implementation are endorsed.
