FIFA’s Local Organising Committee and the PNG Sport Foundation are working hand in hand to ensure the successful delivery of the U20 Women’s World Cup this November.
Despite the lack of physical evidence, on both the PNG Football Stadium and Bava Park in Port Moresby, Executive Director of the PNG Sport Foundation, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, has given his assurance that all venues will be ready for delivery to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) by the August 13.
“Despite not seeing evidence of the actual structure itself, the way in which we’ve created our team is a lot of the mechanics of putting together structure itself, are done out of site and will be brought on to site when the time is right,” said Tsiamalili Jnr.
“With the Sir John Guise Stadium and National Football Stadium there minor works that we will need to adjust to cater for the FIFA requirements, but it won’t be as challenging in the two mini stadiums and the 17 fields,” he added.
To deliver these facilities on time, the foundation will be working closely with the LOC and the Sport Ministry to meet certain requirements set by FIFA.
“There are documented stadium space guidelines which we’re following and working with the foundation to deliver. It’s about communicating these minimum standards through to the use groups, to ensure there is uniform standards met across all the facilities,” said LOC CEO, Seamus Marten.
With venues the least of their worries, the LOC’s focus is also on meeting the operational demands of the event.
