The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) student body put to halt administration operations yesterday, and blocked the front gate to stop student movement as the school goes into the second week of protests demanding the reinstatement of the National Fraud Squad Director, Matthew Damaru, and his officers.
They’ve also called on the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, to step down because of the declining state of the economy.
Students have been holding a series of forums discussing these ongoing issues.
Unitech students have taken a series of steps to make sure that people in authority hear their petition.
The main gate is shut, vehicles have been grounded, the movement of those going in and out of the campus restricted, while administration operations have come to a halt as students continue with their demands.
Yesterday, the Unitech Student Representative Council reaffirmed their demands for Prime Minister O’Neill to step down and the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate to be reinstated by Police Commissioner, Gari Baki.
The student body has put pressure on its Student Representative Council to come out and make the two calls after discussions were made about the state of the economy and the impacts it will have. They did this in their 22 provincial groups.
Student leaders are now speaking on behalf of the student body.
