FIFA Venues Given Funding Injection

By Shane Saroya – EMTV Sport, Port Moresby

With the countdown to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup creeping ever so closer, the national government has injected K20 million to complete all infrastructure, of which K10 million will go towards the completion of Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

Sport Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, said the money was sourced from the remaining budget allocated to the 2015 Pacific Games.

Sir Hubert Murray Stadium has come under heavy scrutiny regarding the delay in construction work to meet FIFA’s deadline, however the sports ministry, through PNG Sport Foundation, has committed K10 million to construction company Curtain Brothers for the completion of the stadium.

Apart from Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, two mini-football stadiums with a 5,000 seating capacity, and 15 ovals that will also be upgraded to FIFA compliances in the next three to four months, will all utilise this injection of funds.
