“If you have a child, who regularly steals from you, would you give him your money to care for? Would you send him out to look after the money of your community knowing that he is likely to steal again, shaming himself and his family?”
This was a scenario used by Lawrence Stephens, the Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) Chairman, to relate the importance of voting for the right person when it comes to election day.
As a result of too many cases of theft committed by those in public office, TIPNG has called out to the public to be critical in electing the right person that will represent the best interest of the people.
A statement from TIPNG said, when appointing a representative to the national parliament, citizens exercise an important right and respond to a duty to the people of the electorate and to all the people of PNG.
TIPNG has placed paramount importance on voting the right leaders into parliament because if otherwise, the real victims will be the public, the very ones who gave power to the person elected.
