Cricket PNG Receives Funding from SP Brewery

By Shane Saroya – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

Cricket is a sport that has grown from strength to strength over the years and its success on the field is attributed to managing the code in a transparent and efficient manner.

SP Brewery made its commitment to support Cricket PNG under their new Export Radler brand with a cheque of K200,000.

SP Brewery Managing Director, Stan Joyce, made the announcement in renewing their partnership.

This one year sponsorship will ensure that the national men’s and women’s teams continue developing their high performance program and getting more games and education for players.

The men’s national team, the PNG Barramundis, returned to training in preparation for their upcoming first international home match against Kenya from May 28-30, in a 50 over match.

This will be an important game for the Barramundis; it will determine where they stand in the world rankings.

The match against Kenya will be followed by a four-day game against Namibia later in the year.

PNG Barramundis are in the top four of the rankings at the moment, and if they make it to top two by 2017 they will earn an automatic qualification to the Cricket World Cup.

The PNG junior development side, the Garamuts, failed to qualify for the World Cup but they will be looking to qualify for the 2017 World Cup in the U-17 and U-19 divisions.
