Family Seeking Justice

By Sasha Pei-Silovo – EM TV, Port Moresby

The family of Monica Belloli Naggy is seeking justice following the brutal beating the 31-year-old received from her partner.

Naggy sustained severe injuries to her head, jaw, hips and back, and is currently hospitalised at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

It’s a story that has received much public attention since photos of the victim were posted on the popular social media site, Facebook; giving us yet another glimpse of the vicious cycle of violence that continues to affect scores of women in PNG.

Naggy, part German and Bougainvillean, could have lost her life.

With the help of friends and family, the perpetrator, Sampson Ikasa, was arrested and charged at the Boroko Police Station for attempted murder. However, he has since been let out on bail; a move the victim and her family feel is unjust, considering the nature of his crime.

The family has since lodged an Interim Protective Order against Ikasa, and is standing by Monica to see justice served on her attacker.
