Support Fire Fighters

A young female fire fighter was physically assaulted in the face while attending to a house fire at Hohola 4.

According to fire fighter Delilah Alex, her fire crew from the Boroko fire station were the first to respond after receiving a fire call at 10am.

They managed to arrive a few minutes later and while her colleagues were trying to contain the fire from spreading, Miss Alex went down the street in search of a fire hydrant.

A man walked up towards her and suddenly swung at her, hitting her in the face and knocking her to the ground.

She said the assailant later went up to the other fire fighters and verbally harassed them.

Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo has condemned the assault.

He says this is not the first time fire fighters have been assaulted or verbally abused when they turn up to carry out fire fighting operations

Mr Roo is appealing to the public to respect fire fighters when they are out in communities doing their job and refrain from attacking or harassing them
