U.S Ambassador to PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, Erin McKee expressed shock at last week’s violent protests at the Capitol Hill.
McKee says protests have always been part of American tradition but violence is never the answer.
McKee said failed efforts of these extremists to overthrow constitutional order in the U.S only demonstrated the admirable power of democratic institutions governed by the rule of law and accountable to citizens.
In light of this, America will come to a standstill on January 18th, to commemorate MLK Day.
A tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jnr, who was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement that successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law.
McKee says while the U.S democracy was tested, it held firm as the reminder of Dr King’s message rang out with a call to work together for a better tomorrow.
In that spirit, she looks forward to continuing her important work in the region, on behalf of the people of the U.S, PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
