More Calls to Ban New Alcohol Beverages

Residents of Lae’s four-mile community are calling on the government to ban alcohol in the country, as it is the cause of many social problems in the communities.

A victim of a alcohol related offense, Maria Dona said she gets assaulted and insulted by young men under the influence of alcohol twice a week when defending her market table from being destroyed by the drunkards.

The residents said the police can’t do much because of the limited manpower and logistics support.

Lae’s four-mile community is another common area in the city that daily faces problems related to alcohol abuse.

Four-mile community is in the vicinity of the three-mile police command headed by Police Station commander, Sergeant Graham Boram.

Complaints of alcohol related issues are reported daily here at the three-mile police station.

However, Police find it difficult responding to all the complaints due to the lack of manpower and resources.

The people are calling on their leaders and the government to seriously come with measures to control the consumption of alcohol.
