Intense lobbying continues into the night as media wait for updates

The PNC led block of MPs camped at the Crown Plaza hotel have not been able to make a firm  statement  of their position and the status of  the Prime Minister’s post since 10am when a press conference was initially scheduled.

Members of the media waiting in one  the hotel  conference rooms  have  were told that the Deputy Prime Minister, Charles Abel would be ‘making an announcement’ soon. However, that has not eventuated.

At about 3pm,  journalists were  told that PNC members had gone in for a  caucus meeting.  The outcome of which remains unclear.

At least one senior minister said that the PNC Party  had 29 members in camp reflecting the exit of the group  led  by Puka Temu yesterday. He also said the PNC and its coalition partners had at least 60 members.

While many MPs in, what’s now being called the ‘Alternative Government’ are calling on Deputy Prime Minister, Charles Abel to resign,  there is a possibility that  he could be next in line to take over leadership of the PNC only  if Mr. O’Neill relinquishes the post.

But so far, Mr. O’Neill has shown that he remains unwilling to give up the post as party leader and Prime Minister.
