IPF President Calls for Inclusion of Pacific Island Countries

By Godwin Eki – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

President of the International Powerlifting Federation, Robert Keller, said future Oceania championships will see an increase in the number of Pacific Island countries in the competition.

The inclusion will not only involve attending championships but also creating international referees, especially from the Pacific Island nations, to merge with countries like New Zealand and Australia.

The recent Oceania Powerlifting Championship in Gold Coast Australia, witnessed seven Pacific Island Countries competing.

These countries were, PNG, Fiji, Niue, New Caledonia, Fiji, Solomon Island, and Nauru.

President Keller was pleased to see an increase of Pacific Island Countries at the event, saying that it is now moving in the right direction, especially after recent administrative changes.

He says IPF’s plan is to work alongside island nations so that they too can have a representation at every international event.

PNG will host the next Oceania Powerlifting Championships in 2020.
