The Madang Provincial Police Commander believes there is a general lack of regard by a minority in the community who are attacking respected members of the community.
Chief Inspector, Ben Neneo, comments follow an incident on Monday (19 November 2018) morning where the provincial Senior Magistrate, Josephine Kilage’s vehicle windscreen was smashed.
According to the police report filed by Magistrate Kilage, an unknown number of suspects threw stones into her premises smashing the front windscreen of her vehicle.
Three CID officers are now tasked to carry out an investigation to identify suspects involved and the motive behind such actions. This is not the first incident to happen to a respected member of the community.
In January this year (2018), former Chief Justice and Madang Governor, Sir Arnold Amet, was attacked by an armed man while driving into town from his home at Nagada.
In another incident, 4 suspects who were among a group of 7 armed men, were arrested and detained for further interrogation.
The armed men stole K100,000 from employees of a More Grace supermarket at Ramu, who were trying to do banking. The armed men while attempting to escape fired shots at the general public.
A pregnant woman who was traveling on a PMV bus was shot during the ordeal and died from the bullet wounds sustained.
Meanwhile, three suspects are still at large and investigations are underway.
In another armed robbery at Iguruwe along the Lae-Madang Highway, police have received reliable information that the body of another suspect who was shot at by police was found.
PPC Ben Neneo, says this now brings the total number of suspects killed to two.
Neneo warns criminal elements engaging in criminal activities including armed robberies to refrain from continuing. Adding, those caught or confronted by the police will not be given a second chance. They will be dealt with accordingly.
