Port Moresby’s Boroko market was closed last Thursday (15 November, 2018) due to the APEC summit held over the weekend.

Today (19 November, 2018) it resumed normal operations. However, mothers selling food at the market have complained that the 33-day closure of the Boroko market had affected their daily income level.

The mothers at Boroko Market in an interview today with EMTV News, have said they were not happy with the closure of the market.

President for the Central Vendors Association at Boroko Market, Theresa Aiva, says many of the mothers’ income generation avenues come from selling their market produce.

Rena Angima, a mother selling sweet potatoes at the market, said the 3-day closure had set her back by a large difference.

Most of the sellers have made losses.

Theresa Mal, a fruit seller in the market says she lost much of her produce because of the market closure.
