By Julie Badui-Owa – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The female students of Nawaeb Lutheran High School in Nawaeb District, Morobe, will have access to a new girls dormitory next year.

Two hundred and fifty female students are currently using a single dormitory, that was built to accommodate forty students.

The new dormitory is jointly funded by the Australian Government at a cost of K350,000 and Nawaeb District with K150,000 through the Kina Bungim Kommuniti approach.

The current girls’ dormitory has 16 rooms. The Senior students are using eight rooms while the other half is occupied by the Juniors.

Each room contains two bunk beds, that accommodate four students. But right now, twelve students are accommodated in each room and along the corridor.

The Nawaeb Lutheran High School was established in 2004. The school currently has 730 students and 17 teachers. 243 students travel by PMV to attend classes here.

This school is the only high school in Nawaeb District that serves 27 feeder primary schools of Nawaeb, Lae and Kabwum Districts.

According to the School’s Principal, Gobuta Kosieng, accommodation for both teachers and students has always been a need for the high school.
