The Beach Volleyball Championships started today (18 September,2018) at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.

About 30 teams are taking part in the tournament where selections will be made for the Pacific Games train on squad.

The beach volleyball tournament got off to a slow start today but pick momentum heading into the afternoon matches.

“The registration of the teams, teams were coming in slowly this morning because we had the grand finals of the indoors last night, finished at around 1 o’clock in the morning so that the team team’s coming in very late for registration.

“We have completed registration. The competition has started, we had the women’s matches this morning and now we’re on the men’s competition,” says Vincent Sinari, the PNG Beach Volleyball Coach.

About 11 women’s teams and 20 men’s teams are taking part.

West New Britain has sent two teams to compete in this year’s competition.

The competition will run two days and selections will be made for Team PNG beach volleyball train-on squad for the Pacific Games.

After this tournament, there are plans for more competitions to be held.

The last day of competition will be held tomorrow (19 September, 2018) at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
