Papua New Guinea’s National Health Department has confirmed an additional new polio case in a one-year-old boy, last week in Morobe Province.
This is the second reported case of polio in the country.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary, Pascoe Kase, says following the first round of polio vaccinations, they were able to reach more than 240 thousand children in 3 provinces.
The National Health Department has also imposed a vaccination requirement for all travellers.
This means, people who are travelling are required to take a polio vaccine or booster dose, before leaving the country.
Health Secretary, Pascoe Kase, said this complies with the International Health Regulations that recommends all travellers in polio-affected areas must be vaccinated against polio.
Two hundred thousand doses are allocated for travellers only.
