Iriani Wanma, a 27-year-old Papua New Guinean author was part of the Literacy Week Celebrations in Port Moresby.
Ms Wanma wrote a book entitled, ‘Oa the Grasshopper and Kaipa the Caterpillar’.
Her book was published by Buk Bilong Pikinini, and is read by hundreds of children around Papua New Guinea.
Iriani is one of many Papua New Guinean authors who write books for children.
She started her education at Coronation Primary School in Port Moresby and had a special interest in writing.
Her family moved to Australia where she completed her studies.
In 2014, when Iriani was 24 years old she wrote the two children’s books.
Her book was published by Buk Bilong Pikinini and copies made available at Buk Bilong Pikinini libraries.
The book is about how a friendship between a caterpillar, and a grasshopper and how the caterpillar transformed into a butterfly.
