Landowners in Sirinumu have warned the Government to honor its commitments.
Council President, Ogi David, said landowners want social and economic development and, not empty promises.
He made this statement this afternoon following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between Sirinumu landowners, the Works Department, and other stakeholders.
Delighted landowners made a strong stance for the Government not to make the same mistake.
The MOA also unlocks the valves of the dam which landowners locked following the worsening road conditions which needed attention.
The MOA recognises the outstanding funds allocated in 2014 to complete 5km of road in Iarowari to Sirinumu.
Following the legal clearance of the MOA by the office of the State Solicitor, the National Executive Council will approve the funding before construction work begins.
“The MOA signifies Government’s effort in fulfilling its promises since allocating K10 million in the 2014 budget for road works from Iarowari to Sirinumu”, said Works Secretary, David Wereh.
Sirinumu landowners hope this MOA will pave way for other developments in the area.
“We want to see social and economic development in our area,” said President Ogi.
The MOA was signed at the Works Headquarters in Port Moresby.
