One of the news developments belonging to the Popondetta Market story is that the project is incomplete, allegedly due to misuse of funds.
Northern Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector, Lincoln Gerari, has confirmed that investigations were conducted by the fraud squad, but never completed.
The Popondetta Market Project was allocated funds between 2011 and 2013, to an amount of K3 million, but was left incomplete due to no available funds.
It’s claimed the contractor company is owned by a current serving Member of Parliament.
Provincial Governor, Gary Juffa, was very optimistic when responding to questions raised by EMTV News, and said to query this with the Police Commissioner, Gari Baki.
“We reported the matter to police and investigations were conducted. But police were recalled by the commissioner, and today the market still remains incomplete,” Juffa said.
Juffa said the Popondetta Town Market is among other investigations amounting to almost K8 million.
“The market is one of these cases. If the market was properly built, it would have a litter facility, for the garbage disposal,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Police Commander, is aware of this case.
Since taking office this year, he found that the Popondetta Market Investigations are hanging loose.
Gerari said for some unknown reasons, the fraud squad left the investigations incomplete.
Gerari said he had established investigations, and will continue this inquiry once funding is available.
