40 years of bilateral relations between PNG and China was celebrated with the official handing over of the International Convention Centre.
As China’s biggest grant aid project in the Pacific, the convention center will be used to host the 2018 APEC summit.
The Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was not able to attend the event but that did not dampen spirits as Chinese .
Chinese Ambassador Li Ruiyou described the milestone as a mature.
He said PNG has become the largest recipient of Chinese direct investments, which totalled nearly 5 million US dollars.
Some of those investments include, the Ramu Nickel mine and the Wharf and four lane highway in Lae.
Ambassador Ruiyo said the International Convention Centre is China’s biggest grant aid project in the Pacific so far.
It cost K60 million.
Standing in for the prime minister was Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko who announced the malaria eradication program.
