28 Man Squad Selected for National Championships in Goroka

A 28-man squad has been selected after the Southern Zone Rugby League Trials were held in Port Moresby last week.

The team will travel up to Goroka, Eastern Highlands province, later this year for the National Championships.

The players were selected from the 16 teams that took part in the trials.

Even though Port Moresby Rugby League pulled out of the trials during the finals, this has not affected the players selected from the association.

Nine players have been selected from PRL’s green and gold team, with four from the Southern Blacks and the rest made up of players from other teams.

Players were selected on experience, fitness and form.

The Under 20 trials are to be held at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium next week, with the Under 20 zone competition to be used to select players to represent the Junior Kumuls for the Prime Minister’s XIII match.

This year’s Prime Ministers XIII match will see many Hunters players named in the Kumuls, if they have not been selected to play in the ISC match against the Falcons.

A venue for the PM’s XIII clash is yet to be confirmed by PNG Rugby Football League.
