Over 2,000 people celebrated the completion of their financial education training in a mass graduation ceremony yesterday in Port Moresby.
The event marked another major achievement for the country’s Microfinance Expansion Project.
Assistant Governor of the Financial System Stability Group of Bank of PNG, Ellison Pidik, said financial literacy is the first step to improving our standard of living.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Sione Kami Memorial Church in Port Moresby. The completion of the financial literacy course now brings the total number of course graduates to more than 135,000.
The course is part of the Microfinance Expansion Project, an initiative of the PNG Government and supported by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Australia.
The project was launched in April 2012 with the aim of increasing financial inclusion in PNG and providing financial literacy training to 130,000 people by the end of 2018.
