Two suspects involved in the killing of a PNGDF soldier at Kirakira Village have been arrested by NCD Police.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Operations, Perou N’dranou, said positive cooperation by villages in the investigation led to the arrests.
The killing took place mid last month, sparking anger and a standoff between members of PNGDF’s Charlie Company and Kirakira villagers.
Mr N’dranou said a total of 4 suspects are involved in the killing of 26-year-old Private Caim Gudinoku on the eve of 20th and 21st June at Kirakira Village.
However, only 2 suspects were arrested, the third recovering at the Port Moresby General Hospital, yet to be arrested, while the fourth is on the run.
The NCD Metropolitan Superintendent said the case involves 2 separate investigations: arson by PNGDF soldiers and the murder by Kirakira youths.
N’dranou said police are on top of the case with backing from Kirakira Village councillors.
Meanwhile, Mr N’dranou said the prime suspect in the killing of senior Foreign Affairs Officer, Dennis Bebego, has been arrested.
The suspect is a 46-year-old hailing from Mendi province. He was previously attached with the policy division of Foreign Affairs. Police believe the killing is work-related.
The suspect will soon go through investigation processes as the case is serious.
