Former UPNG Chancellor contests Jiwaka Regional Seat

The rivalry for the Jiwaka province governorship in the forthcoming parliament is getting intense with yet another long time public servant and recently retired Chancellor of University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), Dr Nicholas Mann, putting his hand up to contest.

Dr Mann, a medical doctor with 35 years of experience in both the public and private sectors with a wealth of experience is contesting the seat which is currently held by Dr William Tongamp, a Mineral Processing and Chemical engineer, who is also the first governor of the new province.

Mann, the former Secretary of National Department of Health is contesting under the banner of the PNG Destiny Party (PNG DP).

When asked why he chose to run under the banner of PNGDP, Mann told EMTV Online PNG DP was created through serious prayer, fasting and seeking the mind of GOD by a team of senior clergy and laymen of which he was part of, adding that the constitution of PNG DP is the Word of GOD.

He also mentioned a need for a change in leadership in the new Jiwaka province.

“Jiwaka Province is a new-born baby that desperately needs a mature, experienced, wise, caring, intelligent, visionary, God-fearing Christian, well-respected and a role-model father,” Mann said.

“Anything less will result in the early and premature death for the newborn baby called Jiwaka.”

With recent emphasis by Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates Commission on the need for political parties to have quality candidates who have honesty, integrity and other qualities of good leadership, PNG DP claim their candidate for Jiwaka Regional, Dr Mann, possesses the requirements of being the leader that the people want.

A fact sheet authorised and released by Mr Kennedy Waia, the Public Officer of PNG DP reported that Mann is a practicing Christian of 40 years, with a strong family and Church person, and is a person fully convinced that the God of Israel is the only hope for Jiwaka province and PNG.

Mann is from Kudjip in the Jiwaka province and has recently been the Chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea before contesting this election.

Meanwhile, one of the founding fathers and the man behind the pushing for Jiwaka province, Simon Kaiwi, urges the people to choose good and matured leaders for Jiwaka province.

Kaiwi, the former National Alliance president and also contesting for the Jiwaka Regional seat said this during the UPNG Jiwaka Students Union First Years’ orientation night at Waigani campus on Thursday 18 May, 2017.
