Papua New Guinea’s kickboxing world titleholder Rickson ‘Powerhouse’ Yamo was attacked and beaten by several men just after 10am yesterday morning outside of Port Moresby.

The commotion started with an argument with another passenger.

According to Yamo, the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, stood on his foot and when Yamo asked him to move, he refused. Yamo then forcefully pushed the man away leading him to calling on his relatives to attackYamo.

The 27 year old Yamo claimed he was attacked by up to 20 drunken men who dragged him out of the bus, and began the abuse with dangerous weapons such as iron bars, sticks, stones and bush knives.

Yamo has reported the matter to police and has received treatment from doctors but is still recovering. Yamo is supposed to compete for a vacant world title in April in Australia, but this will now depend on his recovery from this attack.
