Yama: More Public Servants to be Investigated and Charged

By Martha Louis – EMTV News, Madang

Madang Governor, Peter Yama, says the internal investigation into the provincial government has taken a couple of months to complete. And Police have now carried out some arrests, saying those offences are serious indictable offences.

Yama says the offences are in relation to non-compliance of the public finance management act, misappropriation and official corruption.

The governor says the investigation would also reveal other persons involved in misusing hundreds of thousands of provincial government money. Saying this is money clearly allocated for contract funding, and are not supposed to be cashed out.

Mr. Yama said there are a number of people involved in these offences and they will be identified and dealt with by law. Police are continuing investigation

Yama’s remarks follow the arrest of the three former public servants in Madang a week ago. The three are; former Provincial Administrator, Daniel Aloi, Provincial Finance Director, Dick Moiga and the provincial legal officer, Godwin Haumu. They were arrested and charged over two counts for misappropriation of K400,000 and official corruption. The three appeared for their first mention at the Madang District Court last Thursday.
